Bring the outside in!

I love these nature inspired accessories. I'll admit, I'm on a green kick at the moment and have hoarded all kinds of moss covered lovelies as well as silk flower arrangements. If you're anything like me, zero green thumb genes, buying faux plants is a great investment. (Home Goods has an awesome selection of very high quality silk flowers) Decorating with natural type objects is the perfect way to add that pop of color you need. I just think flowers and birds make your home feel, well, more homey.

Shell bottles like these run extremely high. I for one am not willing to pay 200+ for something so tiny, but, luckily these little beauties are really really easy to mimic and DIY. You can actually find everything you need at Hobby Lobby. Or, if you have your own little collections from beach vacations, this is a great way to display your favorite shells.

Collecting objects is probably one of the most rewarding pastimes. It makes any shopping trip a treasure hunt. Each found item has its own story. In the process of collecting, you continue to learn. And as you build your collections, you apply skills in identifying, selecting, discriminating, evaluating, classifying, and arranging your items.

Splash of red.

Red got nixed off of my favorite color list a long time ago. I started gravitating towards softer, more neutral tones. But I kept coming back to these beautiful spaces. Although you do have the harsh pop of red, the other tones balance it out. If you want to showcase a particular color, choose an odd number of places to put it. Make sure it's even and balanced across the space. You want your guests to feel comfortable, so don't overdo it. And remember, the eye will go to the brightest color in a room immediately. Loud colors really can liven up a space and communicate a more cheerful tone.

Ten things you can make with burlap.

Burlap is my latest obsession. Turns out when I find something I love, I see it everywhere! Don't go out and spend a fortune in home stores. DIY! You can purchase plain burlap for roughly $2.99 per yard at most fabric stores. Sometimes, you can find old coffee bean sacks or grain sacks with writing at flea markets, but they run at a higher cost. Make your own design, with stencils and fabric paint. It's so versatile, you'll be burlap-ing everything, one glue gun burn at a time!
