If anything, they can inspire you to repaint some of your own furniture. Summer's got me thinking about brighter colors. Don't be timid about repainting old lacquered furniture either. I tend to like painted wood better. If left natural, I like it weathered, not super shiny. Just my own preference. And don't forget the power of just changing out hardware!

For those of you who like to DIY, wrapping old furniture and ugly accessories in rope is a quick and easy way to completely reinvent their looks. All you need is cheap rope (obviously) and a glue gun. And for those of you who don't DIY, places like Pottery Barn and West Elm sell rope wrapped items.
